A medieval house

Serving as a beautiful setting to the collections, the House of Knights, la Maison des chevaliers, is entirely classified as a Historical Monument (Monuments Historiques) and is one of the jewels of Gardois heritage. Behind this mysterious name hides a perfectly well preserved house, belonging to a rich dynasty of merchants from the Rhône Valley. The house was first built in the 112th Century but has undergone many transformations since.
Discover the royal court of justice fo the 14th Century, of impressive dimensions, and the 2 15th century ceremonial rooms decorated in a breathtakingly modern way . On the beautiful painted ceilings: coats of arms, exotic animals, fantasy creatures and scenes of every day life, all coming directly from of the imagination of Middle Ages men.

A lsacred yet lay museum
What is the link between a Roman Virgin, the statue of a soldier from a Chinese tombstone, an African mask and a Cretan icon? Unlike other art museums, the museum of sacred art of the Gard gathers objects that are not ususally seen together. The meaning behind most of these is quite obscure to most of us nowadays. The museum has a daring approach to culture and tries to shine a light on the meaning of the pieces of its collection.
