Nature Area for relaxation

Discover the local fauna and flora at the Espace détente!

This walking trail is particularly suited for families, as children and adults are bound to enjoy this little walk in the garrigue.

The trail is open to everyone all year long since 1997. There are several picnic tables. The access is free and the beginning of the walk is in Méjannes-le-Clap, next to the D 167 road.

While following the path of the Espace Détente you will discover a variety of flowers and plants: a green-oak grove, juniper trees, a white-oak grove, Montpellier mapletrees with tiny leaves, dogwoods the fruits of which are edible when ripe, clematis...
There are also plenty of forest birds for you to look out for: chaffinches, blackbirds, nightingales, black headed warblers, orioles, blue tits and great tits, jays, green woodpeckers, cuckoos, wood turtledoves and more...

In the South part of the trail and particularly in May, you are likely to spot a few rare sorts of flowers such as the Aphyllanthes monspeliensis, a blue carnation from Montpellier, or Narbonne flax, as well as some more common ones like meadowsweets and buttercups...

At the centre of the trail, go back in time as an olive grove, several almond trees, old mulberry trees along with old stone walls and a charcoal burners' hut will give you an idea of what the plateau of Méjannes looked like when the coal and farming industries were thriving.

The walk around the Espace Détente is an easy one, even with pushchairs or wheelchairs. However, for those of you who are so inclined, there are several suggestions of sports exercises along the way to add some fun to the stroll, so have a good time!
